What does it mean to be loved by God?

JESUS LOVED MARTHA AND HER SISTER AND LAZARUS
JOHN 11:1-6

Two Bethany’s;
JOHN 1:28
28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Two sisters;
LUKE 10:38–42
38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

The directive to anxious believers;
1 PETER 5:7
7 [Cast] all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

A familiar theme;
JOHN 9:3
3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

Jesus will not be rushed;
JOHN 2:4
4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”

JOHN 7:6, 8
6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here…8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.”

Delayed for a purpose;
LUKE 7:12
12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.

MARK 5:23
23 …and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.”

ACTS 9:37
37 In those days [Dorcas] became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

ACTS 20:10
10 But Paul went down and bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.”

ACTS 14:19–20
19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city…

―Greater love and lesser love―

EPHESIANS 5:25–26
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.

PSALM 37:4
4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

God’s greatest acts of love are when God brings you to God, and when God brings you deeper into God.

ROMANS 5:8
8 …but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

JOHN 3:16
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

1 JOHN 4:10
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

GALATIANS 2:20
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

EPHESIANS 1:4–5
4 …In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ…

HEBREWS 12:5–7, 10
5 …“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?...10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.

God’s highest love is to give to us whatever we need to move our hearts to glorify Him and delight in Him.
