John 11:7-37

In what ways is God trying to show you His love for you?

I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE
JOHN 11:7-37

The security of the believer;
JOHN 9:4
4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.

PSALM 139:16
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

JOB 14:5
5 Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass…

PSALM 31:15
15 My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!

The seemingly inconsistent reality of faith;
1 KINGS 19:4
4 …And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

MARK 9:24
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

MATTHEW 14:31
31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

The mark of a genuine church;
JAMES 1:27
27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

1 TIMOTHY 5:3
3 Honor widows who are truly widows.

ACTS 6:1, 3
1 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution…3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.

The effectiveness of every word of the Lord;
ISAIAH 55:11
11 …so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

―Three oppositions to the love of Jesus―

Death is truly a formidable, though defeated, enemy;
1 CORINTHIANS 15:26
26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

The anger of Jesus;
JOHN 5:7
7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”

JOHN 14:1
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

What was the real object of Jesus’ anger?

The rejoicing of Christ;
LUKE 10:21
21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children…”

JOHN 1:14
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

JOHN 17:24
24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

Jesus is disturbed and indignant when His loving efforts of self-revelation are misunderstood and misrepresented.
Jesus is glad and rejoices when His glory is revealed to and perceived by His sheep.

The transformative power of seeing His glory;
2 CORINTHIANS 3:18
18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

God’s higher love is to do whatever it takes to reveal to His glory to His sheep, because perceiving His glory is the source of transformational faith.
