What Are You Seeking?
God chooses to know us as who He will make us to be.
WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING?
JOHN 1:35-42
Seeing the Lamb slain for you;
ROMANS 5:8
8 …but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The Christian life begins with having your eyes opened to the glory of Christ crucified for you. Until you see Him as your Lamb, Christianity is just a religion.
‘Following’ in John;
JOHN 8:12
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
JOHN 10:27
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
JOHN 12:26
26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also…
JOHN 21:19
19 …And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”
The initial encounter with the unnamed disciples stands as a paradigm for all who would follow the Christ.
Jesus turning;
MATTHEW 9:22
22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.
MATTHEW 16:23
23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

God grants the believer new desires;
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
PHILIPPIANS 2:13
13 …for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
EZEKIEL 36:26
26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
The believer is expected to cultivate new desires;
PSALM 37:4
4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
What the follower is truly seeking determines how far they will follow.
JOHN 6:66
66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.
The disciples desire simply to be with Jesus;
LUKE 9:58
58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
God beckons all: Come and see;
PSALM 34:8
8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
ISAIAH 45:22
22 “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.”
Jesus invites you to Himself. He is not an idea. He is a living Person. Come and see His worth. Come and be satisfied.
Bringing others to Jesus;
JOHN 6:8–9
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish…”
JOHN 12:22
22 Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.
Bringing others to Christ is not about having all the right answers.
Christ who transforms His followers;
2 KINGS 23:34
34 And Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim…
2 KINGS 24:17
17 And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.
GENESIS 1:26
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
GENESIS 2:19–20
19 [God] brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field…
GENESIS 17:5
5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.
GENESIS 17:15
15 And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.
GENESIS 32:28
28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel…”
REVELATION 2:17
17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’
God’s perception of the follower;
ROMANS 4:17
17 …[God] gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.
1 JOHN 3:2
2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
COLOSSIANS 3:1–4
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Among the most profound truths of the Christian faith: God chooses to know us as the one He will make us to be.
